Rules

The Basics

  • There are 17 weeks in the NFL regular season; each week is host to between 13 and 16 games
  • There are several players in Tigerball; all players for the 2010 season are assigned to the same league / conference: there are not different leagues
  • Each player selects (predicts; "picks") one team to win each game
  • Picks must be made and submitted via the Submit Your Picks webpage no later than 10am Sunday morning; for games played on a day other than Sunday, picks must be submitted before the start of the game
  • There are no points awarded to any team in any game; there is no point spread
  • Each player receives one win for each victory correctly predicted; total player wins are equal to total correctly-predicted victories
  • Each player is awarded the points each selected team scores; example: Cincinnati beats Indianapolis 42-3, so each player who selected Cincinnati is awarded 42 points and each player who selected Indianapolis is awarded 3 points
  • Players who fail to select either team in a game before the deadline (typically at kickoff or 10am Sunday morning, whichever comes first) shall be awarded 0 wins and 0 points for the game

Scoring and Standings

  • Players compete to lead the league (all other players) in two categories both for each individual week and for the season:
    • Wins: these are used to declare weekly winners and the season champion
    • Points: these are used for tiebreakers and to determine a season recognition award
  • At the end of each week, player win and scoring records are totalled and reported on Tigerball.org; weekly totals and current season standings are both reported
  • The player with the most wins for the week is the weekly winner
  • Weekly results are listed in order of weekly wins; the week's wins leader is listed first
  • Current standings are listed in order of season wins; the wins leader is listed first
  • Points are used to determine a winner in the event of a tie; if there is a tie in both wins and points, there is a tie for the week and both players get credit for a weekly win (just like in the NFL: points act as a sort of regular season overtime, in which there is only one attempt to determine a winner)

Season Results

  • At the conclusion of week 17, the Season Champion is determined, and two outstanding players are recognized:
    • Season Champion:
The player with the most wins overall is declared the Season Champion; in the event of a tie, points are the first tiebreaker, weekly wins is the second tiebreaker, and fewest missed games is the third tiebreaker
    • Most Valuable Player:
The player with the most weekly wins is declared Most Valuable Player; in the event of a tie, co-MVPs will be declared
NOTE: the MVP is the player with the most weekly wins who did not win the season championship
    • Offensive Player of the Year:
The player with the most points overall is declared Offensive Player of the Year; in the event of a tie, co-Offensive Players of the Year will be declared
NOTE: the OPY is the player with the most points who did not win the season championship nor the MVP
  • Players are listed in the final standings in order of season wins; the Season Champion is listed first

Playoffs

  • Playoffs begin immediately following the conclusion of the regular season
  • The NFL playoffs total 11 games over 4 weeks
  • Player wins and points start over for the playoffs; playoff results have no affect on season results
  • Tigerball's playoffs utilize the same rules as the regular season (see "The Basics")
  • At the conclusion of the playoffs, player wins are totaled and a playoff winner is declared
  • HINT: there is little margin for error, and the 4 weeks go quickly; historically, losing more than 2 games essentially eliminates a player, so choose wisely
